A Word from the Pastor - June 2026

What is his Name

Exodus 3: 13And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, what is his name? what shall I say unto them? 14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

In the Bible a name is not just a sound or a word we utter. It means quite a lot. It is a revelation of who a person is; what he has and can accomplish. Philippians 2: 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

In a nutshell a name reveals personality, character, might, and influence. Luke 19: 30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. 31 And if any man ask you, why do ye loose him? Thus shall ye say unto him, because the Lord hath need of him. Just saying “the Lord hath need of him”, the colt was released.

According to the Bible a person’s name is a description of his NATURE. Likewise, the names of God in Scripture are various descriptions of His character. In a broad sense, then, God’s “name” is equal to all that the bible and creation tell us about God.

God is like a diamond, full of brilliance and complexity. Each name of God reveals His Personality and a different aspect of who He is. These aren’t just ancient titles.  No, they are invitations to know Him more personally. The more we understand each feature about who He is, the more confident we can be in our identity as His children. Below is a list of some KEY NAMES used for God in scripture with corresponding verses.
