Psalms 8:1 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Psalms 8 is a powerful reminder of God's majesty and the glory of His personality. In scripture, God's name represents His very nature, character, and supreme authority. The Excellency of God’s name is an admission of His majesty, supremacy, and authenticity.

When we say that God’s name is excellent, we mean that everything about Him—His character, His actions, His thoughts, His desires, His plans, His words— is excellent, praiseworthy, and perfect.

Psalm 8 opens with a powerful declaration: "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens" (Psalm 8:1). This verse reminds us of the greatness and gorgeousness of God's creation. From the vastness of the heavens to the intricacies of a single flower, everything reflects His glory. When we contemplate His excellence, it often inspires a sense of awe, wonder, and worship, whether observing the vastness of creation or recognizing His perfect love.

The Psalmist, David, notes the incredible power God displays in nature. God's influence on the natural world is obvious, and it should lead people to recognize Him. When we look at creation we see evidences of God’s great power which is worldwide.

In Psalm 8, a comparison is made between the scope of God's vast creation and the nature of humanity. The same God who made vast stars, a colossal universe, and numerous planets also made us. It's this contrast which amazes David, who is overwhelmed to think that God would care about insignificant people when He has also made such mighty things.

God’s Name is excellent in all the earth and His glory is set above all the Heavens. The name of a person in the Old Testament times even when not physically present, when a person’s name was mentioned, everything about their character would immediately come to mind. God’s character is excellent. So, His names are excellent in all the earth. Regardless of where you and I are on this earth, God’s Names are excellent. His Name isn’t excellent in USA, UK, or AFRICA only. His name is excellent in all the earth! So whatever God’s name has accomplished anywhere in the world can be repeated everywhere also.

Wherever you are today, God’s name can give you victory! His Names are above every other. There is no name like the name of the Most High. As you live your life daily, keep God’s Names in perspective. Go ahead and stand on the authority of God’s excellent Name today. There is power in that name. There is authority in that name. There is integrity in that name and God will see to it that everything the name represents is delivered into your life today, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
