Promoting the Glory of God
1 Corinthians 10: 31 whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
The “Glory of God” is the true purpose of our lives! All we are and all we do should focus on reverencing, praising, and glorifying God! This therefore is the essence of promoting the glory of God. According to the Westminster Shorter Catechism (1647), “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.”
1 Corinthians 10: 31 whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
This verse confirms what Colossians 3:17 says about the purpose for which man is created. The main conclusion of Man’s life is to glorify God. This includes to live with God, and enjoy your life with Him. Paul said in Colossians 3: 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
To promote means to advertise, advance, proclaim, publicize, or make known. The glory of God speaks about His character and His weight. Thus to promote the Glory of God we advertise the character of God, and bring honor to God.
1 Corinthians 10: 31 whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. This is about wholesomeness or totality. What you do personally or in fellowship with others must bring glory to God. In eating, drinking and whatever you do, in all things, God must be glorified - 1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Promoting the glory of God therefore means, honoring God and praising Him for who He is. It means magnifying and reflecting His loving character through our own thoughts, words, and actions
In conclusion, Thomas Watson (ca. 1620-1686) said “Let us endeavour to make the name of God glorious and renowned. If God seek our good, let us seek His glory….”
